The American Academy for Professional Law Enforcement (AAPLE) was formed in 1974 by the merger of the Academy of Police Sciences and the Law Enforcement Association on Professional Standards, Education, and Ethical Practice.

AAPLE is composed of members from the City, State and Federal Law enforcement agencies, private corporations, security firms, and numerous academic institutions of higher learning.

AAPLE continues to promote professionalism, and provides a forum for discussing and publicizing law enforcement problems affecting Long Island. This is accomplished by meetings, guest lectures, networking, professional opportunities and developing public support for improvements in the criminal justice system.
